SuperSERVER - the high-speed database engine

  • Extremely fast tabulation performance
  • Effortless processing of complex hierarchical datasets and classifications
  • Easy administration and security

SuperSERVER is central to the SuperSTAR system. It is the database engine that provides tabulation facilities for the SuperCROSS and SuperWEB modules of SuperSTAR. It is the power of SuperSERVER that makes OLMAP (Online Analytical Processing), with its promise of fast, easy insights, a reality.

How does SuperSERVER work?
Once databases have been built using SuperCHANNEL they can be registered with SuperSERVER using the Java based administration tool. This tool then monitors all SuperSERVER processes and allows administrators to set up user access and install databases.

Hosting SuperCROSS and SuperWEB
Both SuperCROSS and SuperWEB connect directly to SuperSERVER. As new databases are added or updated on SuperSERVER, they become immediately available to authorised SuperCROSS and SuperWEB users.

Speed
While a more powerful machine will achieve faster results, demonstrations have shown that SuperSERVER can tabulate over 100 million records per minute on a desktop computer. Even when the query becomes more complex and contains joins across tables, speeds of over 60 million records per minute were achieved.

Micro and macro data
Not only does SuperSERVER allow for the fast tabulation of microdata but it can also work with summarised data or cubes. These cubes can then be used with SuperWEB for dissemination purposes.

Scalability
SuperSERVER is scalable and takes full advantage of multi-CPU environments, allowing multiple tabulations to be run concurrently. From data stored in one central machine, SuperSERVER opens up a whole world of knowledge to your internal users.

Complexity handling
SuperSERVER handles complex data including joins across multiple tables, detailed hierarchies and complicated classifications. It is also able to create synthetic fields 'on the fly'. This means your data warehouse or database can be easily and cheaply mirrored with SuperSTAR. The whole process is centralised, ensuring consistency, ease of administration and removing the need for costly updates.

Security
The incorporation of user permissions gives administrators the power over who sees the data they are providing and what priorities their jobs receive. SuperSERVER requires log-ins from client to the server. SuperSERVER can be integrated with LDAP security systems to offer single sign on via central user administration systems.

SuperSTAR metadata driver
SuperSERVER comes bundled with a metadata driver which enables database metadata such as field codes, descriptions and classifications to be sourced directly from central metadata repositories. As well as database metadata, additional descriptive information such as database explanatory notes is available.

Command line access for Database Administrators
SuperSERVER contains a command line interface that allows SuperSERVER to be fully embedded in an organisation's production system. Administrators can use scripts to distribute viewing rights or add databases in bulk rather than performing the same task via the administration tools graphic interface.
